“Josh has a natural talent for capturing the experiences of his subjects. Through a lens of true recognition, honour and appreciation, his approach challenges the narrative of an outsider looking in, to one depicting authentic experiences -as if he is a welcomed guest being gifted with honest and vulnerable insight.”

Sustaining Community
There were numerous memorable moments during filming, but one that stands out vividly is the coNversation I had with a lovely lady attending the Tuesday group for the first time after her partner's passing. She shared with me that Pat, the facilitator, upon her arrival—gave her a huge hug, which she hadn’t experienced in quite some time – we both cried. this sums up KPCP for me.
Kimberworth Park Community Centre, more affectionately known as the Chislett Centre was named after the inspiring environmentalist, filmmaker, and community builder, Charles Chislett. He brought the local community together in the 1950s to support the establishment of a place for leisure, fun, and fostering a sense of family and support in the surrounding neighbourhoods.
Witnessing the vision and heart behind it last for so many years is truly inspiring. In 2011, the centre faced closure due to government funding cuts, yet once again, the community rallied to keep it alive. When I entered the Chislett Centre, I immediately sensed a magical atmosphere of community. People of all ages mingle, share laughter, cook, sing, and build, creating an environment where loneliness simply cannot exist. There is immense joy in spending time with these Rotherham people.
Tying the environmental theme into the film was particularly special, especially meeting Steve, who passionately showed me the gardens and compost used to grow vegetables. His enthusiasm embodies the essence of what makes this place so special—everyone is tended to and cared for with intricate detail and selfless care.
I can’t wait for my next visit to this remarkable place. Thank you Denise and Dawn for entrusting me with such a significant project. I am excited to witness the future developments and growth of this community hub. There is no doubt that the Chislett Centre will continue to thrive, and I am honoured to be a part of it.
